- Our founder, Laura Von Harten, was endorsed by the SC League of Conservation Voters when she first ran for Beaufort County Council (she was elected in 2006, and she was reelected in 2010).
- This spring Laura is participating in the Master Naturalist program offered by Clemson University Extension at the Lowcountry Institute at Spring Island.
- We recycle waste paper, cans, bottles, inkjet cartridges and (when they finally burn out) compact fluorescents bulbs.
We've been as conscientious as we can about our supply chain.
- We rent office space at Beaufort Town Center. This redevelopment project within the City of Beaufort recently built the first LEED gold-certified commercial building in our area. Lowcountry Explorer's office is not actually in that LEED certified building, but wish we were. If you're interested, they have live/work lofts available 1600 Burnside Street (pdf).
- We sell tickets via Brown Paper Tickets, a not-for-profit-only company that provides a fair-trade alternative to services like Ticketmaster.
- We buy office supplies from Staples because they've made a decent commitment to using post-consumer recycled content in some of their products.
- We get website hosting from Macdock. They use Mac servers and are into all things Apple. As a corporation, Apple isn't a perfect angel when it comes to sustainability, but they are at least trying to do the right thing.
- Our primary tour vehicle is a 1996 Toyota Camry Station Wagon. It holds three or four passengers. If we have a larger group we use a van provided by one of our partners like Spirit of Old Beaufort.
