
Here I am at the bow of the Sea Island Lady, one of the boats my crew and I built on Lady's Island in the late 1960s.

My father was H.H. "Capt. Geech" Von Harten. He came from a long line of watermen who piloted ships and carried cargo to Charleston and Savannah and points in between. Capt. Geech became a shrimper after he learned the techniques of Portuguese shrimpers who came to Beaufort in the 1920s.
